The WorkSafe Victoria HSR Refresher is a WorkSafe-approved training course will assist the understanding of HSRs and Deputy HSRs in how they can effectively use their powers when participating in the identification, prevention and control of the risks associated with Plant (Machinery and Equipment).
Your Entitlement
Under section 67 of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act (the OHS Act) 2004 an employer, if requested, must allow an elected HSR and elected deputy HSR to attend a WorkSafe-approved HSR Initial OHS Training Course on paid time, pay the cost of the course and any other associated costs. Section 67 also allows HSRs to choose the course in consultation with their employer.

The Health and Safety Representative Training is WorkSafe-approved training course will help an HSR and Deputy HSR understand and effectively exercise their powers, protections and entitlements under the OHS Act 2004. OHS training equips HSRs/DHSRs with the confidence, skills and knowledge to represent their designated work group and to help make their workplace safer.
Note: Although HSRs are the primary audience, managers, supervisors, health and safety committee members and anyone with an interest in health and safety may also benefit from attending this course.

NSW – Health and Safety Representative Initial Course
The Health and Safety Representative initial training course is designed for newly elected Health and Safety Representatives and Deputy Health and Safety Representatives in New South Wales, who have requested training.
This course provides the knowledge and understanding to allow participants to perform the role of a Health and Safety Representative in New South Wales.
The WHS Act 2011 entitles a HSR to attend a course of training in work health and safety after being elected, within 3 months of making their request to their PCBU. It is a requirement that employers allow the HSR time off work to attend training.

VIEW COURSENSW – Health and Safety Representative Refresher Course
The Health and Safety Representatives in New South Wales are entitled to attend the refresher course every twelve months. This is commencing one year after the initial five-day course has been completed as per the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017 (NSW).
This refresher will provide the information and skills attained in the initial course assist HSRs to carry out their role and functions under the WHS legislation in their workplace.
