ARTC NSW/QLD Track Vehicle Operator

Training Ahead is an approved supplier of ARTC and offers the approved training of the ARTC NSW/QLD Track Vehicle Operator course.

This course is a requirement for any individual operating a Road/Rail vehicle or Track Machine withing a ‘restricted’ environment in the New South Wales and Queensland ARTC network.

This course is recognised on the following railway networks:

  • ARTC

On completion of this course, it will make up the Rail Industry Workers Card Job Role

  • ARTC – Track Vehicle Operator – NSW

Please note: As part of the course, training and assessment process you will need to operate a road/rail vehicle in a simulated workplace environment and as such, Training Ahead Australia has an admission requirement of all participants having to hold a valid driver’s license.

Duration: 4 days + on job assessment.

Based on industry consultation and job role expectation as per the RIW National Track and Civil Matrix, TAA has the following admission requirements:

Student must provide:

  • General/Medical Requirements:
    • Category 1 Rail Medical
    • ARTC National Contractor Induction
  • Statement of Attainments (or equivalent):
    • TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor
    • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
    • TLIF0027 Perform lookout duties
    • TLIF2082 Perform handsignaller duties
    • TLIL3082 Implement absolute signal blocking
    • TLIW0007 Operate under track protection rules
    • TLIW2037 Clip and secure points
    • TLIF2097 Use audible track warning devices
    • TLIF0023 Conduct track protection assessment
    • TLIL3082 Implement absolute signal blocking
    • TLIC0025 Pilot rail traffic within work on track authority limits
    • TLIL4069 Plan and coordinate protection for multiple worksites within limits of a work on track authority
  • Certificate of Achievement (not expired):
    • ARTC NSW/QLD Handsignaller Level 1 Currency
    • ARTC NSW/QLD Handsignaller Level 2 Currency
    • ARTC NSW/QLD Protection Officer Level 1 Currency

TAA requires all students to be 18 years of age or older.

When does the course expire: The units of competency do not expire however the Certificate of Achievement expire every 2 years. You can complete the recertification through Training Ahead Australia.
What to bring and wear:

The practical will be completed in a simulated rail corridor and full PPE will be required. The following PPE is a mandatory requirement:

  • Work boots – ankle supportive, steel capped and lace up
  • Long pants
  • Rail approved orange long sleeve high visibility shirt or high visibility vest
  • Eye protection – safety glasses
  • Hard hat

No Guarantee

Training Ahead does not provide any guarantee that:

  • A student will successfully complete a training product on its scope of registration; or
  • A student will obtain a particular employment outcome where this is outside the control of the RTO.
Work Placement

Students will be required to complete an infield logbook undertaking the role under guided supervision of a competent and qualified mentor as per the logbook requirements.

Students will not be issued a Qualification Testamur or Statement of Attainment without a valid USI.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
  • Students are required to have the ability to read and write English
  • The ASQF level of this training program has been assessed to be level 3.
  • Students are required to have at least Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills. Please advise if you have any language, literacy, or numeracy needs; or difficulties reading, writing, or speaking English.

All individuals entering into this training course are subject to an LLN assessment prior to enrolment. If the LLN assessment does not adequately assess the candidates LLN level or there is any ambiguity, the assessor will conduct a secondary interview to determine the candidates LLN level and take appropriate action, in accordance with TAA’s LLN procedures.

Where a candidate is determined to not meet the required LLN skills required they will not be enrolled in the training program.

Government Funded Training

This course is not eligible for Government Subsidies through Training Ahead Australia.
