TC1 and TMI1 Combined Traffic Management and Traffic Manager Implementer 1 Combined Course (Victoria)

The TC1 and TMI1 Combined Traffic Management course provides the skills are for the individuals who will be responsible for stopping and starting traffic in Temporary Traffic Management on urban streets and low volume rural roads and for traffic management implementation.

As per the Asutroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management, the Traffic Controller 1 (RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set) and Traffic Manager Implementer 1 (RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set) covers the functions on TTM Category 1 environments.

Traffic Management

TTM Category 1 are inclusive of single carriageway roads with a posted speed limit of:

  • less than 60 km/h where the AADT is less than 10,000, or
  • 110 km/h or less where the AADT is less than 3,000

TAA Admission Requirements:

Based on industry consultation and job role expectation, TAA has the following admission requirements for TC1 and TMI1 Combined Traffic Management Course:

Students must provide:

  • General/Medical Requirements:
    • Photo proof of ID (drivers’ licence/passport).
  • Statement of Attainment (or equivalent):
    • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
    • Due to the above Statement of Attainment being a pre-training requirement, this means a white card is not accepted – it must be a Statement of Attainment.
When does the course expire: The courses expire every 3 years.
What to bring and wear:

For the TC1 and TMI1 Combined Traffic Management course, all students will be required to provide their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during their placement, including:

  • Two-way radios
  • High-visibility vest/shirt/jacket and pants,
  • Safety boots,
  • Hard hat,
  • Safety glasses and gloves.

Work Placement

Skill Set 1 – RIISS00058 – Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads (TC1)

  • In addition to completing the units of competency, learners are required to complete at least 20 hours of practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace.
  • • The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within a maximum of six months of successfully completing the three-day course.

Skill Set 2 – RIISS00060 – Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads (TM1)

  • In addition to completing the units of competency, learners are required to complete at least three different types of set ups applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace.
  • The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within a maximum of six months of successfully completing the three-day course.

TAA will assist you to organise your work placement

TAA will assist students with their work placement. We have three options available:

  • Option 1 – Students are also able to organise their own work placement to complete the practical experience.
  • Option 2 – TAA has relationships with various traffic management companies nationally and can organise practical placement for students. This placement will may be in either Melbourne area or regional Victoria.
  • Option 3 – TAA Australia also can offer placements within Melbourne area at an additional cost to book in your placement dates.

Students will not be issued a Qualification Testamur or Statement of Attainment without a valid USI.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
  • Students are required to have the ability to read and write English
  • The ASQF level of this training program has been assessed to be level 2.
  • Students are required to have at least Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills. Please advise if you have any language, literacy, or numeracy needs; or difficulties reading, writing, or speaking English.

All individuals entering this training course are subject to a Language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) assessment prior to enrolment. If there is still any ambiguity of the candidates LLN level after the completion of the LLN assessment, the trainer will conduct a verbal interview to determine the candidates LLN level and take appropriate action, in accordance with TAA’s LLN procedures.

Where a candidate is determined to not meet the required LLN skills required they will not be enrolled in the training program.

Government Funded Training

This course is not eligible for Government Subsidies through Training Ahead Australia.
